Sir Alex set to bid for Real Madrid's Diarra

French defensive midfielder Lassana Diarra may be lured back to the Premier League by Sir Alex Ferguson. The Real Madrid player has failed to earn consistent first-team action in Spain and a move to the Red Devils could benefit the 25 year-old. Real Madrid have set the price tag for Diarra at £24 million. Diarra previously played in England for Chelsea and Arsenal before coming into his own at Portsmouth, which led to his move to Madrid.
A move for Diarra would create even more crowding in what is already a deep midfield. While Owen Hargreaves and Michael Carrick have failed to live up to expectations either due to injury or poor form, Darren Fletcher has cemented his place as one of the premier central midfielders in England. In addition, aging veterans Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs have performed well as substitutes and spot starters for Manchester United. However, with Diarra in the holding midfield spot, Fletcher, as well as Giggs and Scholes, would be able to provide more to the United attack.
