Real Madrid Legends on Their Way Out

Real Madrid legends Raul and Guti both seem to be on their way out of Spain’s capital with the arrival of new head coach Jose Mourinho. Madrid has given Raul Gonzalez and Jose Maria Gutierrez the preseason off so that they can take time to decide their futures. Both players have until July 26 to inform Madrid of their decisions.

Raul and Guti, who are both entering the last few years of their career, have seen less playing time for the Spanish power, some of it due to injuries, and some of it due to being ousted by the talented youth that Madrid possesses. Mourinho has met with Raul and has said that he is willing to allow Raul to take of a leadership role from the locker room, but not from the field.

With both players seemingly on their way out, Madrid has shown much respect to their captains by giving them time to make the right decision, and by honoring their legendary times with Real.

Should neither player return to Madrid, we may see Raul land himself in the MLS with either the New York Red Bulls or the Los Angeles Galaxy. However, overseas teams Schalke 04 of Germany and Premiere League clubs Manchester United and Blackburn have also shown interest in Spain’s all-time leading goal scorer.

As for Guti, Turkish outfits Galatasaray and Besiktas have put in offers for his services, but Guti has also been linked to a move to Olympiacos, Blackburn, and Zenit St. Petersburg.
