Newly-installed manager Roy Hodgson has made known his intentions to bring in four new players for Liverpool this summer. Hodgson will initally receive a transfer kitty of £15 million, which will be bolstered further by the anticipated £25 million move of Javier Mascherano to Real Madrid and by Yossi Benayoun's £6 million move to Chelsea.

The most notable player on Hodgson's wishlist is Real Madrid misfit Rafael van der Vaart. The Dutch international would provide attacking flair and offer a natural complement to Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, and Dirk Kuyt. Hodgson also wants to bring in Gilberto Silva as a natural replacement for Mascherano, should he depart for the Bernabeu, as is expected. The other players targeted by Hodgson are midfielder Danny Murphy and defender Brede Hangeland. Signing the quartet would certainly declare Hodgson in a position to business and would bolster the Liverpool sqaud.
