Liverpool have announced that they have signed former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole on a free transfer. The club has reached a four-year deal that is thought to pay Cole around £90,000-a-week. Cole will complete a medical in the next two days and then finalize the transfer. He will wear the number 7 for Liverpool.

Cole's signing is a declaration of intent by Liverpool to compete for the Premiership title this year, following a disappointing 2009-2010 campaign. With the futures of Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard in doubt, manager Roy Hodgson will hope that capturing Cole can persuade the two stars to stay at Anfield.
