Serbian international defender Nemanja Vidic may be set to finally leave Old Trafford. Real Madrid are the lead candidate suspected to try to pry the player away from Manchester United. Vidic has been liked with many European clubs in recent months, first stating his desire to leave then claiming he is happy in Manchester. When asked about Vidic's future the other day, boss Alex Ferguson said simply, "I can't clarify it at all."

Vidic has been an anchor in the United defense, and with Rio Ferdinand suffering from various injuries and a run of poor form, the Serbian's importance is higher than ever. However, many believe this will be a transition year for Manchester United, and a departure by Vidic would give young defender Jonny Evans a chance to start in the middle. Evans is expected to feature in the future, and he would certainly benefit from experience and added playing time in a year where United may not be competing til the end for the title.
